Your Love

A Spanish rose,
plucked from her garden,
move from mountain
to ocean to sea
seeking shelter
she came upon my doorstep
and here’s what she said to me:

“Solo en cada país,
canta la misma cancíon,
trabajo por día,
grito por noche.
Oaio.”

She told a tale
of love requited
a rose’s season
to open full bloom.
but seasons change
to leave the broken hearted
alone, with her love
gone too soon, singing:

“solo en cada país,
canta la misma cancíon:
trabajo por día,
grito por noche.
Oaio.”

jamie comes home with her face bashed in
her sister looks her over with a mischievous grin
“so you went to get screwed by him again,
you’re so f*ing crazy.”

jessie’s at the bar with her ears still wet
she talks real hard so the hustlers forget
she ain’t even got a driving license yet
she’s still just a baby

doesn’t anybody wanna know what the hell’s goin’ on?
doesn’t anybody ever notice when something’s gone wrong?
doesn’t anybody believe in love anymore?

jenny asked the preacher what the good lord said
his hand went up her skirt said he could show her instead
said if he could have her writhing in his bed
she’d be a believer

jimmy told his daddy that he thought he was gay
his daddy told him that he’d go to hell one day
jimmy said he’d rather choose that price to pay
than be a deceiver

he said doesn’t anybody wanna know what the hell’s goin’ on?
doesn’t anybody ever notice that something’s gone wrong?
doesn’t anybody believe in love anymore?

Lay your burden down boys,
Lay your burden down
Of your kind they will say
How you set your will ablaze
But for now lay your burden down boys
Lay your burden down

We came from the port of New Orleans
From the maiden who ne’er shall wake
In her bed we take rest
From the woes we possess
By the shores of her Ponchartrain Lake, boys

We crossed the Great Mississippi
The roar of our nation’s birth
On her mighty waves
For the triumph of the trade
They belied the measure of our worth, boys

We passed by the graves of our mothers
Through the land where they toiled and they tilled
Are we ever to know
How their seeds were made to grow
It’s a silence that haunts us still, boys

When we reached Angelina County,
A Hidden Village we did find
A fraternity
Nay, the “Order of the Qui!”
Deep in those Texas Pines, boys

We took comfort in your union
The rage in your will of fire
You reached out a hand
Yes we joined the royal band
With our will may we ever inspire, boys

So, lay your burden down boys,
Lay your burden down
Of your kind they will say
How you set your will ablaze
But for now lay your burden down boys
Lay your burden down

Please don’t think me civilized
Please don’t leave me patronized
Please don’t think I’ll compromise
I’m not your baby girl

Please don’t try to analyze me
You can’t help but fantasize
But I won’t buy your sack of lies
I’m not your baby girl

I’m a woman on the run
I have so much to be done
Purpose is my number one
I’m not your baby girl

Don’t tell me I’m out of line
I can’t mend your broken mind
But watch me break your paradigm
I’m not your baby girl

You can’t see me
You couldn’t if you tried
You’re luck if you catch a shadow of my backside.

I want to write a song that she will hear,
She who holds beauty beyond reason.
She, whose eyes like butterflies
Reach to meet the morning sunlight
as it warms their wings
and they rest upon the rainbows
as they wish for simple things

I want to play a song for her to sing
she who hold beauty beyond reason.
she, whose eyes like butterflies
tell her everything she’ll ever need to know,
taking flight beyond the moonlight to behold
beauty beyond reason.

She who knows the reason we must fight for our lives,
She who knows the season comes
to take out the knife from her wounded soul,
for she holds beauty beyond reason

she calls the wind to meet her
like it was her familiar
it bends itself to greet her
and finds itself returning to a
long lost love affair

she whispers something tender
the color of surrender
she binds herself to wonder
and finds herself believing in the

most unlikely pair

still the space between is wide
the distance between nothingness and matter

chorus
how will she go from here to there
she must become the wind
wrap herself around the earth
stir the brittle leaves on the eventide

“i am the tree top” she says
up from the earth’s tender skin
it took me centuries to find the sun
and i can feel your feet upon
the ladder to my leaves
come and stir them on the eventide.”

“i’m the mountainside” it says in reply
up from ocean’s bottom
it took me centuries to find the sun
but i can feel your feet upon
my bed of fallen leaves
come and stir them on the eventide”

and she said
show me the way from here to there
must i become the wind?
wrap myself around the earth
stir the brittle leaves on the eventide
sing for the hillside…

i am the moonbeam it says
up from nothingness of matter
it took me centuries to find the sun
yet i can feel your feet upon
the ladder to the leaves
come stir them on the eventide

bridge
there is where there is nowhere but here
and you’re breathing me in
here is where it all begins

so how do we go from here to there
we must become the wind
wrap ourselves around the earth
stir the brittle leaves upon the eventide
make some glory
tell the story of the seas
wrap ourselves around the earth….

chorus
Blue rock, blue rock twisting
Trying to make trouble, trying to make freedom.
Blue rock, blue rock shifting
Stirring up trouble, stirring up freedom.

We are living in a world today
Where we take our own peace of mind
And give it away.
Take my hand at the highest price,
And with just enough stardust
I’ll paint my own paradise.

chorus
Blue rock, blue rock shaking
Stirring up trouble, stirring up freedom.
Blue rock, blue rock breaking,
Trying to make trouble, trying to shape freedom.

All around me I see soul folk on the floor
Selling flesh and blood til it ain’t no joke no more.
Sweatshop economics in the name of evolution
And green back flavored apathy
Done bought out the revolution.

My Lord what a morning
When the blue rock shakes the mighty to the Earth
My Lord what a morning
When the mountain lays down pleading for rebirth
My Lord what a morning
When the tide crawls back to rest upon the shore
My Lord what a morning
When the martyred sons and daughters cry no more.

chorus

bending back
over the burden
of crossings and crosses
burning my fortunate eyes
and if i could i surely would
breathe a little lighter
but i’m overcome

terror takes
too many hands to
make me believe what the
looking glass tells me i fear
and if i could i surely would
fight a little harder
but i’m overcome

empty eyes
once filled with crystals and reverie
and love for their fathers
broken backs
under the weight of it all
and if i could i surely would
stand dream a little wider
yeah, if i could i surely would
stand a little taller
but i’m overcome

for every night the moon saw me drunk
on bottled silences laced with liquid dreams…

for every dawn that¹s sealed your caresses
in a rapid twilight ecstacy…

for the ocean of barren dessert
who finds her oasis
in a distant fertile sea…

touch my fingers…
wet my eyes…
and breathe on me….
